One of many colorful murals in Punta
Gorda; this one celebrates local
black history, and decorates a community center. |

View of the historic (1888) lighthouse at Sanibel. It is owned by
the federal government but managed by the City of Sanibel, which
houses some of its workers there in its historic buildings, but
there is talk of adding more interpretive signs, and maybe even
a museum, some day..421

One building in Punta Gorda’s
History Park. This is the former
office building of Trabue, one of the city’s first leaders.
Now, it is home to the prolific Peace River Writers Society (thanks
to Lin Williams for providing a fascinating tour of this part of
town)43

Will Rood from Clewiston stands for scale, at an island recently
exposed by lowered levels in Lake O. Will’s family has lived
near the lake for three generations, and he has never seen the water
so low (also, he was one of the first in the area to notice fossils
exposed on some islands). |
